The COR Museum is a home for artifacts of the city and its people. It is also an educational space that develops exhibits, lectures and programs to help residents
and visitors discover the diverse aspects of the city’s people, places and events.
One of the defining purposes of the COR Museum is its continual effort to preserve the artifacts of the city.
Through active searching and by receiving donations, the museum collects, preserves and researches artifacts that trace the city’s growth and daily life.
Without the museum, these artifacts would possibly find no central and shared repository for future access and use—and so otherwise become lost to time.
Thus the museum seeks to preserve what is historically significant and relevant to Raleigh’s past, present, and future to share with all generations.
Materials Not Typically Collected
Because of our limited space, the COR Museum can only accept items with immediate relevance to Raleigh and the surrounding area’s history and growth.
While we appreciate one’s consideration, we cannot accept artifacts that are old or of personal value but with little apparent significance to our local history.
With that said, we do not collect the following items:
- Old electronics (computers, televisions, fax machines, modems), unless directly related to Raleigh businesses or organizations (media groups, university departments, and so forth).
- Personal book, music, and film collections
- Furniture
- Other personal artifacts unrelated to Raleigh or its surrounding area
The museum will give special consideration to materials that fall into these categories but are exceptionally significant to Raleigh’s past or present.
