Diamond Days: The History of Baseball in Raleigh

Diamond Days Our newest permanent exhibit, explores the history of baseball in Raleigh. The space centers around a “dream team” of famous players with connections to Raleigh’s numerous minor league teams. Wall panels highlighting the history of the sport take visitors from the earliest days of Raleigh baseball to the final seasons of its defunct minor league teams. Additionally, vintage sports equipment and memorabilia is featured. As part of a collaboration with MLB Raleigh, the space allows visitors to indicate their support for potential future Raleigh baseball projects.

The Briggs Adventure

The Briggs Adventure explores the history of the building you are standing in! This exhibit tells the story of Briggs Hardware store, the Briggs family, and the architecture of the building. Many replicas of the items sold over time are on display.

Hello, We Are Raleigh!

Hello, We are Raleigh! is a tour through Raleigh’s history, from the area’s pre colonial era until the modern day. This exhibit features dozens of artifacts and images through the lens of themes, which include: Founding, Business, Education, Culture, and Growth. Exhibit highlights include nails from Isaac Hunter’s tavern, one of the first buildings in the area, and a signed helmet from the Carolina Hurricanes hockey team.

The People’s Politics: Local Democracy in Raleigh

The People’s Politics is a multimedia experience that guides visitors through the political process of Raleigh. This includes a video describing a city issue that visitors contemplate and then vote on, as if on City Council. More than a dozen artifacts from prominent Raleigh politicians are on display, as well as an interactive map for visitors to show what district of Raleigh they live in.

Women of Change: The Legacy of the 19th Amendment

Women of Change is an exploration of the Raleigh women instrumental in changing political history. This exhibit begins with the fight for women’s voting rights and continues to the present day. Distinguished Raleigh women and their political achievements are featured as well as notable firsts for women nation-wide, political exclusions, and artifacts from local campaigns.

Raleigh’s City Flag: Lost and Found

Raleigh’s City Flag is a tribute to the symbols of the City of Raleigh. The original city of Raleigh flag was lost for decades, but rediscovered by chance. The exhibit details the history of the flag’s creation, rediscovery, and conservation efforts.
